Intellicast's Climate Guide To Central America
The North Atlantic Oscillation Index which had turned positive near the end of January signaling the end of a significant Atlantic blocking episode, dropped to neutral or even briefly a small negative around the 18th of February. That may have helped the storm in the northeast bring snow a bit further south.
It quickly returned to positive territory again and forecasts for the next week show it staying that way. How long will the warm weather last? Well certainly the weather looks mild or even very mild now for at least a week.
These relatively long, alternating warm and cold spells are typical of La Nina. We would be surprised however, if we did not get more high latitude blocking events, another reversal of the NAO and of the weather pattern sometime in March.
