THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF NORTH AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO...INCLUDING THE
FOLLOWING AREAS...CHAVES COUNTY PLAINS...CURRY COUNTY...ESTANCIA
VALLEY...ROOSEVELT COUNTY...SANDIA/MANZANO MOUNTAINS...SOUTH
CENTRAL HIGHLANDS AND SOUTHWEST CHAVES COUNTY.

* UNTIL 6 AM MDT EARLY THIS MORNING

* SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAIN
AND FLASH FLOODING WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT AREAS MAINLY EAST OF
A LINE FROM CLINES CORNERS TO CORONA TO ARABELA TO ROSWELL EARLY
THIS MORNING. THIS INCLUDES THE HIGHWAY 285 CORRIDOR NORTH OF
ROSWELL TO VAUGHN. HEAVY THUNDERSTORM RAINS WILL ALSO IMPACT
PORTIONS OF CURRY AND ROOSEVELT COUNTIES PARTICULARLY SOUTH OF
PORTALES AND NEAR THE CAPROCK IN NORTHERN CURRY COUNTY.

* LOCATIONS WHERE THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED FROM RECENT
RAINFALL WILL BE FAVORED FOR FLASH FLOODING. OTHER VULNERABLE
LOCATIONS WILL INCLUDE STEEP TERRAIN... URBAN AREAS AND BURN
SCARS. KEEP A WATCHFUL EYE ON ARROYOS AND SMALL STREAMS...AND
STAY OUT OF FLOODED LOW WATER CROSSINGS. MONITOR THE LATEST
FORECASTS CLOSELY AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION IF A
WARNING OR ADVISORY IS ISSUED.

* AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL SLOWLY MOVE EASTWARD ACROSS
CENTRAL AND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO TRIGGERING SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS OVER MUCH OF THE AREA. WEAK STEERING FLOW ALOFT
COMBINED WITH A VERY MOIST AIRMASS IN PLACE...WILL RESULT IN
SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS THAT WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING VERY
HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING.

NORTH CENTRAL CHAVES COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO

* AT 348 AM MDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
AN AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING MODERATE TO HEAVY
RAINS ACROSS PORTIONS OF EAST CENTRAL NEW MEXICO. RADAR ESTIMATED
UP TO AN INCH AS FALLEN IN LOCALIZED AREAS OF SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL
GUADALUPE COUNTY...WITH SLIGHTLY LOWER AMOUNTS ELSEWHERE. STORMS
ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE MOVING OVER THE AREA WITH ADDITIONAL
RAINFALL AMOUNTS BETWEEN 1 TO 2 INCHES POSSIBLE. EXPECT INCREASED
FLOWS AND RISES IN THE PECOS RIVER TOWARDS SUMNER LAKE AS WELL AS
OTHER ARROYO AND LOW LYING AREAS.

* STRONG FLOWS AND HIGH WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED IN ARROYOS...SMALL
STREAMS AND OVER LOW WATER CROSSINGS. RAPID RUNOFF CAN ALSO BE
EXPECTED IMMEDIATELY OVER AND DOWNSTREAM FROM WILDFIRE BURN SCARS.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO TELL HOW MUCH
WATER IS ON THE ROAD...DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FAST MOVING WATER OF
