At 845 AM CST/745 AM MST/, Doppler radar indicated heavy snow
along a line extending from 10 miles northwest of Norden to near
Merritt Reservoir to Antioch. This snow was nearly stationary.

At 830 am CST...Kilgore measured 5 inches of snow.

1 to 2 inch per hour snowfall rates are occurring in this area
which could last for several hours this morning. Visibility will
fall to around 1/4 mile in the heavy snow. Roadways are becoming
snow packed with ice forming from the warm weather earlier this
week.

This snow was part of a major winter storm which will affect Western
and North Central Nebraska through Friday with up to 18 inches of
snow.

Locations impacted include...
Valentine, Medicine Lake, Merritt Reservoir, Antioch, Crookston, Big
Hill, Highway 61 Crossing The Snake River, Dipping Vat Meadow, Billys
Lake, Wickson Lake, Anderson Bridge State Wildlife Management Area,
Diamond Lake, Intersection Of Highway 61 And Shadbolt Road, Smith
Falls State Park, Indian Hill, Krause Lake, Watson Lake, Steer Creek
Campground, Highway 97 Crossing The Niobrara River and Morgan Lake.

This includes the following highways...
Highway 20 between mile markers 179 and 209.
Highway 250 between mile markers 1 and 29.
Highway 2 between mile markers 98 and 116.
Highway 61 between mile markers 179 and 214.
Highway 97 between mile markers 111 and 141.
Highway 12 between mile markers 1 and 28.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST /5 PM
MST/ Friday.

* Timing...Expect snow to continue...diminishing through the
afternoon on Friday.

* The heaviest snowfall rates will occur between 6 PM this evening
and 6 AM Friday.

* Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected.

* Winds / Visibilities...Strong northeast winds will cause areas
of blowing and drifting snow reducing visibilities to a
quarter of a mile at times.

* Impacts...Travel will be very difficult to impossible tonight.
Ranchers should take precautions to protect young livestock.

Precautionary/Preparedness actions...

A winter storm warning for snow means severe winter weather
