DRAINAGE AREAS IN...
NORTHERN IBERIA PARISH IN SOUTH CENTRAL LOUISIANA...
THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF...NEW IBERIA...JEANERETTE...
CENTRAL ST. MARTIN PARISH IN SOUTH CENTRAL LOUISIANA...

* UNTIL 915 AM CDT

* AT 721 AM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATES A BAND OF
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN MOVING EAST ACROSS IBERIA
AND SAINT MARTIN PARISHES. RADAR ESTIMATES SHOW BETWEEN 1 AND 3
INCHES OF RAIN HAVE FALLEN ACROSS THIS AREA DURING THE PAST 3 HOURS.
UP TO 2 ADDITIONAL INCHES OF RAIN WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER THE NEXT
COUPLE OF HOURS AS STORMS CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AND MOVE ACROSS THIS
AREA.

THIS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE FLOODING OF STREETS IN URBAN AREAS AS WELL
AS PONDING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND ELEVATED WATER LEVELS IN SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
