The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a

* Flood Warning for Small Streams for...
Snowmelt in...
Southern Mono County in northern California...

* Until 1230 PM PDT Saturday

* Prolonged high temperatures will continue rapid snowmelt in high
elevation basins of Mono County where significant deep snow is
still abundant. Stream flows are expected to remain elevated
through the week with the highest flows anticipated over the next
4 days.

* Daily peaks the next several days are likely to match or exceed
the high flows from Monday night and Tuesday morning at many

* We have received multiple reports from law enforcement and
emergency officials of raging creeks and streams affecting some
trails, campgrounds, roadways, and even a few bridges throughout
the eastern Sierra in Mono County. If you have plans to recreate
or travel in this area, it is advised to check if your location
has been impacted.

* Expect renewed or worsening impacts along streams that have
already experienced impacts. Be on guard for new impacts on
additional streams due to increasing flows or long durations of
high flows.


Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks and be aware that
most streams will peak during the night or early morning hours. Keep
children and pets away from all creeks and streams, they could be
swept away in an instant.

Flood Warning

The Flood Warning continues for
The West Walker River Near Coleville.
* until further notice.
* At 10:00 AM Wednesday the stage was 6.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 6.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor to moderate flooding is forecast
through at least the weekend.
* Forecast...The river peaked at 7.0 feet early Tuesday morning. While lower
than the Tuesday peak...peak flows each night and early morning through the
weekend are expected to be at or above moderate flood stage...with afternoon
low points still at or above minor flood stage.
* Impact...At 6.5 feet...Moderate flooding of lowlands...pastures and
some rural roads from the West Walker River Canyon to Topaz Lake...
including Walker...Coleville and Topaz California. Flooding of structures
limited although some sandbagging necessary. In the West Walker River
Canyon...flooding is possible along rural roads and in recreation areas.
* Flood history...This crest compares to a previous crest of 6.7 feet
on June 24 2011.
* Prolonged high flows may have unexpected impacts along the river
