...AVALANCHE WARNING ISSUED FOR THE SANGRE DE CRISTO, SOUTHERN SAN
JUAN AND NORTHERN SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS, THE RUBY RANGE, AND THE WEST
ELK MOUNTAINS ...

A STRONG WINTER STORM HAS DEPOSITED A FOOT OF NEW SNOW THUS FAR AND
PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOWFALL AND INCREASING WINDS ARE FORECAST FOR THE
NEXT COUPLE DAYS. NATURAL AND HUMAN TRIGGERED AVALANCHES ARE LIKELY
ON ALL STEEP SLOPES TODAY.

BACKCOUNTRY TRAVEL INTO OR BELOW AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT
RECOMMENDED AT THIS TIME.

* LOCATION...THE EASTERN SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS ABOVE 10000 FEET.

* CAUSE AND TIMING...A MOIST...PACIFIC JET STREAM WILL BRING
PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS TO THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE
THROUGH TUESDAY.

* TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION...3 TO 4 FEET WITH SIGNIFICANT DRIFTING.
VERY INTENSE SNOWFALL RATES WILL BE POSSIBLE LATE MONDAY
AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

* WIND...WEST TO SOUTHWEST 15 TO 30 MPH TONIGHT...THEN 30 TO 40
MPH WITH GUSTS TO 55 MPH AT TIMES MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT.
WINDS WILL DECREASE SOMEWHAT LATE MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY.

* IMPACT...TRAVEL WILL BE VERY HAZARDOUS...IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE...DUE
TO HEAVY...BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...NEAR ZERO VISIBILITIES
AND ICY...SNOW COVERED ROADS. ROAD CLOSURES WILL BE POSSIBLE.
AVALANCHE DANGER WILL BE EXTREME. PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION IF

TRAVEL IN THE WATCH AREA DURING THE TIME OF THE WATCH...LISTEN TO
THE LATEST WEATHER FORECAST AND CONSIDER TRAVELING AT ANOTHER
TIME OR BY ANOTHER ROUTE. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL IN OR THROUGH THE
