Avalanche watch in effect. THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER
HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE WATCH

* TIMING...Issued at 8 AM MST Sunday for dangerous avalanche
conditions beginning Monday morning.

* AFFECTED AREA...Affected areas include...the Elk Mountains,
Basalt, Red Table and Hardscrabble Mountains, Ruby Range, West Elk
Mountains, Mosquito Range, Sawatch Range, San Juan Mountains, La
Plata Mountains, Needle Mountains, Grenadier Range.

* AVALANCHE DANGER...The avalanche danger could increase to
HIGH(Level 4) Monday morning if we meet or exceed the upper end
of forecast snow totals.

* REASON...A powerful winter storm will move into Colorado Sunday
night. Portions of the Central and Southern Mountains could see
new snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet by Tuesday afternoon. Snow
will be accompanied by very strong winds. Avalanche danger could
rise to HIGH (Level 4). Natural avalanches will become likely and
large dangerous human triggered avalanches breaking near the
ground will become very likely.

* PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Backcountry users should
avoid traveling on or underneath any slope steeper than 30 degrees
during the watch period. Pay attention to changing conditions and
a rapidly increasing danger over the next 24 hours.

TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Moderate to occasionally heavy snow showers and blowing
snow occurring. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including
during the evening commute. Additional snow accumulations of 4
to 8 inches, with localized amounts up to 15 inches, are
expected.

* WHERE...Northwest San Juan Mountains and Southwest San Juan
Mountains.

* WHEN...Until 8 AM MST Tuesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds gusting as high as 60 mph will
cause widespread blowing and drifting snow.

* WHEN...Until 8 AM MST Tuesday.
