Very cold temperatures will take hold of the region for the next
few days. Daytime high temperatures near will only reach near freezing
and overnight lows will drop into the very low teens with some
places dropping into the sub-zero range.

A few inches of snow fell late yesterday afternoon, mainly in the
central Sierra and west central Nevada. Warm ground temperatures
melted some of the snow as it fell to the ground, and in some
places, the sun came back out and began to melt the snow on the
ground. Very cold overnight temperatures will re-freeze roads and
sidewalks and could create treacherous travel in some places.

Some additional snowfall is occurring overnight as another weak
band of snow showers moves through area with an additional
0.5-1.5" of snow possible in western Nevada. This light snow could
cover up areas of black ice, making road conditions extra

Lake effect snow has developed off of Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake
this morning and could last through much of the day. Forecasting
exact snow amounts with lake effect snow is a challenge, but it is
possible this could create additional snow accumulations of 3-6
inches as far as 10-20 miles south-southeast of the lakes. This
includes: South Lake Tahoe into Minden, Gardnerville, Markleeville;
and Nixon, Wadsworth and Fernley. This could impact travel along
I-80 near and east of Fernley and US 88, US 89 and US 395.
