The Flood Warning continues for
the Coal River At Tornado.
* AT 11:00 PM Thursday the stage WAS 26.1 feet.
* Minor Flooding is occurring and Minor Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Forecast...the river has crested and is falling. The river
will fall below flood stage early Friday.
* At stages near 27.0 feet...Coal River Road is flooded in several places along
river. Smith Creek Road and Ferrell Roads are impassable.
* A crest near 26.8 feet compares to a previous crest of 25.5 feet on March 14
2010.

OUTSIDE OF THE FLOODING ALONG THE LARGER RIVERS...FLOOD WATERS
ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA HAVE RECEDED. HOWEVER...SECONDARY ROADS
REMAIN CLOSED DUE TO HIGH WATER AT SOME LOCATIONS.

ANY REMAINING HIGH WATER SHOULD CONTINUE TO RECEDE OVERNIGHT.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY. BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL DRIVING AT NIGHT AS YOU MAY
NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THE WATER ON THE ROADWAY.

HERE IS A SPECIAL RIVER STATEMENT FOR THE KANAWHA RIVER...

THE WATER LEVEL ON THE KANAWHA RIVER WAS 27.0 FEET AT 10 PM. THIS
IS THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST POINT...LOCATED UNDER THE
SOUTH SIDE BRIDGE IN DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON.

THIS LEVEL WILL CONTINUE TO CAUSE MINOR FLOODING OF THE MOST
VULNERABLE DIPS AND LOW SPOTS ALONG THE RIVER...AND EVEN
UP THE MOUTHS OF FEEDER STREAMS.

WATER LEVELS AROUND THE AREA WILL NOT GO HIGHER...AND WILL
CONTINUE TO SLOWLY RECEDE OVERNIGHT...THEN AT A FASTER PACE ON
FRIDAY. A SNOW LINE WILL BE VISIBLE ALONG THE RIVER BANK AS THE
WATER RECEDES.

AS A RESULT... WATER PROBLEMS ALONG THESE VULNERABLE LOW SPOTS
WILL DECREASE FOR FRIDAY MORNING.
