TIMING...
TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH 10 AM WEDNESDAY JANUARY 18TH.

LOCATION...THE EAST SLOPES AND CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN WEST
SLOPES WASHINGTON CASCADES.

AVALANCHE DANGER...THE TIMING OF INCREASED AVALANCHE DANGER HAS
SLOWED AND IS NOW EXPECTED TO BECOME HIGH IN THESE AREAS WITH VERY
DANGEROUS AVALANCHE CONDITIONS DEVELOPING LATE TUESDAY OR TUESDAY
NIGHT. TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED TUESDAY
AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY AS NATURAL AND HUMAN TRIGGERED
AVALANCHES SHOULD BECOME VERY LIKELY. CHECK THE FORECAST FOR MORE
DETAILS.

REASON...INCREASING HEAVY RAIN AND SNOW BEGINNING LATE TUESDAY OR
TUESDAY NIGHT WILL ADD SUFFICIENT LOAD TO THE SNOWPACK TO CAUSE
NATURAL AVALANCHES. WET SNOW AVALANCHES BECOMING LIKELY IN AREAS AND
ELEVATIONS THAT CHANGE TO RAIN. ALSO...STRONG SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL
BUILD NEW AND UNSTABLE WIND SLAB ON LEE SLOPES AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS
THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TUESDAY TO 6 PM PST
WEDNESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SEATTLE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN...WHICH IS
IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TUESDAY TO 6 PM PST WEDNESDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...3 TO 5 INCHES.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS...TOTAL ICE ACCUMULATION POTENTIALLY OVER ONE
INCH IS EXPECTED IN THE PASSES BELOW 5000 FEET.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS...WHITE PASS.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL DEVELOP TUESDAY MORNING THEN TURN TO RAIN
MIDDAY. FREEZING RAIN WILL DEVELOP IN THE PASSES MIDDAY TUESDAY,
THEN WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY WITH
SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS OVER ONE INCH POSSIBLE. HEAVIEST
ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED NEAR THE SUMMIT OF WHITE PASS.

* SNOW LEVEL...AT OR NEAR THE SURFACE IN THE PASSES OR THOSE AREAS
PRONE TO COLD EAST WINDS EARLY TUESDAY...RISING TO 7000 FEET
TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

* MAIN IMPACT...HAZARDOUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE
ANTICIPATED TO DEVELOP EARLY TUESDAY MORNING...WITH CONDITIONS
BECOMING TREACHEROUS IN THE PASSES TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
WEDNESDAY IN THE PASSES DUE TO ICE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW OR ICE
ARE EXPECTED. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS. THE PASSES
WILL LIKELY BE CLOSED AT TIMES DUE TO AVALANCHE CONTROL OR DANGER.
