THE NORTHWEST AVALANCHE CENTER HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE WARNING...
TIMING...IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM SATURDAY FEBRUARY 17.
LOCATION...THE WEST AND EAST SLOPES OF THE WASHINGTON CASCADES
INCLUDING MT BAKER, STEVENS PASS, SNOQUALMIE PASS, PARADISE, WHITE
PASS, AND MT HOOD.
AVALANCHE DANGER...THE AVALANCHE DANGER TODAY IS EXPECTED TO BE HIGH
SATURDAY IN ALL ELEVATION BANDS IN THESE AREAS.
REASON...STRONG STORM SYSTEM WITH HEAVY SNOW, RAIN AND STRONG WINDS
ON SATURDAY WILL RESULT IN WIDESPREAD AVALANCHES.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...BACKCOUNTRY TRAVEL IS NOT

...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM
* WIND...Increasing from the north and northeast at 20 to 35 mph
with local gusts to 55 mph late tonight and Sunday.
* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS...Lynden, Ferndale, Bellingham, Lummi
Island, and Anacortes.
* TIMING...Winds are anticipated to peak from late Sunday
morning through early Sunday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Winds this strong can topple small trees, snap tree
limbs, and cause local power outages. The strong winds along
with temperatures near or slightly above freezing will set the
stage for wind chill temperatures in the teens and lower 20s.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph and/or
gusts of 45 to 57 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make
driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM PST SUNDAY
ABOVE 1500 FEET...
* WHAT...Heavy snow occurring. Plan on difficult travel
conditions. About 6 inches of snow has already occurred today
near Mount Baker. Additional snow accumulations of 11 to 15
inches are expected through late tonight in the mountains, with
about 3 to 5 inches on the floor of the Skagit and Sauk Valleys.
* WHERE...Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit Counties, including Mount
* WHEN...Until 6 AM PST Sunday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An Avalanche Warning is also in effect
until 6 PM Saturday evening. Avalanche Danger is High.
