...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM PST THIS
* COASTAL FLOODING...Seas at the Cape Elizabeth buoy are around 30
feet with a period of 17 seconds this afternoon. The high surf
will continue to result in saltwater flooding over low-lying
portions of coastal communities. Dangerous surf conditions will
continue into this evening.
* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS...La Push, Westport, Ocean Shores,
Taholah. Ocean Shores and Westport are especially vulnerable.
* TIMING...Seas and flooding are peaking this afternoon. Dangerous
high surf conditions continue.
* IMPACTS...Beach runup by waves will be extensive, and severe
beach erosion is expected. Low-lying areas near shorelines will
likely experience saltwater flooding. Some jetties and levees
will be overtopped by the bigger waves and may be damaged. A
great deal of driftwood and logs were pulled into the surf at
high tide today: The beaches will remain extremely dangerous
through this evening.
A Coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and
