The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect from 10 AM to 8 PM EDT Saturday.
* AREAS AFFECTED: CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIRGINIA...NORTHEAST NORTH
CAROLINA...AND THE LOWER EASTERN SHORE.
* MAXIMUM FORECAST HEAT INDEX VALUES: 105 to 109 degrees.
* TIMING: Peak heat indices are expected during the afternoon
hours Saturday, but some locations near the coast may see values
peak by late morning through early afternoon.
* IMPACTS: PROLONGED EXPOSURE OR ANY STRENUOUS ACTIVITY MAY LEAD
TO HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES THAT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE MEDICAL
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned
room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and
