* At 720 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in
the advisory area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lynchburg...
Buckingham...
Amherst...
Appomattox...
and Dillwyn.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

ROANOKE Until 945 PM EDT...

At 848 PM EDT, radar indicated a broken line of strong thunderstorms
with very heavy rainfall extending along a line from Bland, to
Dublin, to Radford, to Roanoke, to Lynchburg, to Buckingham.
Movement was east at 15 mph.

The greatest concern with these storms will be localized very heavy
rainfall, especially some of which will occur in the same areas that
have already seen several inches of rain today, such as Roanoke and
Lynchburg. Pea size hail is possible with the stronger storms.

Salem...
and Christiansburg.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
