THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE
FOREST SERVICE UTAH AVALANCHE CENTER.

THE FOREST SERVICE UTAH AVALANCHE CENTER IN SALT LAKE CITY HAS
ISSUED A BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH.

* TIMING...THROUGH 6 AM MST MONDAY.

* AFFECTED AREA...FOR ALL THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
UTAH.

* AVALANCHE DANGER...THE AVALANCHE DANGER FOR THE WATCH AREA IS
CONSIDERABLE AND EXPECTED TO RISE TO HIGH OVERNIGHT.

* REASON/IMPACTS...STRONG WINDS TODAY WITH PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW
TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY WILL CREATE WIDESPREAD AREAS OF UNSTABLE
SNOW. THE AVALANCHE DANGER WILL REMAIN ELEVATED THROUGH TUESDAY
WITH BOTH HUMAN TRIGGERED AND NATURAL AVALANCHES BECOMING
LIKELY. STAY OFF OF AND OUT FROM UNDER SLOPES GREATER THAN 30
DEGREES.

TO 4 PM MST MONDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulation of 8 to 14 inches in
the mountain valleys, and 1 to 2 feet with 3 feet possible
locally through Tuesday in the mountains.

* WHERE...The Wasatch Mountain Valleys, Wasatch Mountains South
of I-80, Western Uinta Mountains, and the Wasatch Plateau/Book
Cliffs.

* WHEN...From Sunday morning through Monday afternoon.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This looks to be the most significant storm
for the region all winter season. Those planning to travel
through Tuesday should be prepared for winter driving conditions
including snow covered roads and reduced visibilities. Roads may
become treacherous, so make sure to have a winter storm survival
kit in your car. These kits should include warm blankets, extra
clothing, extra food and water, flashlight, cell phone and
batteries. Also make sure to gas up before traveling. Strong
gusty winds may result in areas of blowing and drifting snow for
a few hours after the cold front passes.

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches
with locally higher totals.

* WHERE...The Great Salt Lake Desert and Mountains.

* WHEN...From early Sunday morning through Sunday night. Snow
will begin across the northern portions of this area including
I-84 Sunday morning then spread south during the day. The snow
will taper off from north to south Sunday night.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This looks to be the most significant storm
for the region all winter season. Those planning to travel
through Tuesday should be prepared for winter driving conditions
including snow covered roads and reduced visibilities. Roads may
become treacherous, so make sure to have a winter storm survival
