THE FOREST SERVICE UTAH AVALANCHE CENTER IN SALT LAKE CITY HAS ISSUED
A BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH.

* TIMING...IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM TONIGHT THROUGH 530 AM FRIDAY
MORNING.

* AFFECTED AREA...FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN UTAH, TO INCLUDE
THE WASATCH RANGE...BEAR RIVER RANGE...UNITA MOUNTAINS...AND THE
MANTI-SKYLINE PLATEAU.

* AVALANCHE DANGER...THE AVALANCHE DANGER IS EXPECTED TO RISE TO
CONSIDERABLE AND MAY REACH HIGH DANGER OVER THE WEEKEND.

* REASON/IMPACTS...EXPECTED HEAVY SNOWFALL AND STRONG WINDS WILL
LEAD TO DANGEROUS AVALANCHE CONDITIONS. NATURAL AND HUMAN
TRIGGERED AVALANCHES WILL BE LIKELY. MID AND LOW ELEVATION
MOUNTAIN TERRAIN WILL ALSO BE AVALANCHE PRONE. STAY OFF OF AND
OUT FROM UNDER SLOPES STEEPER THAN 30 DEGREES.

* WINDS...WESTERLY WINDS GUSTING IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH AT TIMES
ALONG THE RIDGELINES FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY.

* IMPACTS...WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS ALL
MOUNTAIN ROUTES THROUGH SATURDAY. THIS INCLUDES INTERSTATES 80
AND 84. BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW MAY REDUCE VISIBILITIES IN
EXPOSED AREAS FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY.
