FOREST SERVICE UTAH AVALANCHE CENTER.

THE FOREST SERVICE UTAH AVALANCHE CENTER IN SALT LAKE CITY HAS
ISSUED A BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING.

* TIMING...IN EFFECT THROUGH 6AM TUESDAY.

* AFFECTED AREA...FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN UTAH INCLUDING THE
WASATCH RANGE...BEAR RIVER RANGE...AND THE MOUNTAINS OF
SOUTHEAST IDAHO.

* AVALANCHE DANGER...HIGH.

* REASON/IMPACTS...HEAVY DENSE SNOW COMBINED WITH STRONG WINDS HAS
CREATED WIDESPREAD AREAS OF UNSTABLE SNOW AT ALL ELEVATIONS
INCLUDING LOW ELEVATION TERRAIN. BOTH HUMAN TRIGGERED AND
NATURAL AVALANCHES ARE LIKELY. STAY OFF OF AND OUT FROM UNDER
SLOPES STEEPER THAN 30 DEGREES.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...1 TO 2 FEET WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS
POSSIBLE.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL CONTINUE...HEAVY AT TIMES...THROUGH
TODAY BEFORE DECREASING TONIGHT. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT
THE NORTH MAY SEE ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATING
SNOWFALL TOMORROW.

* WINDS...STRONG GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS...GUSTING IN EXCESS OF 70
MPH ON THE RIDGETOPS EARLY THIS MORNING. WINDS WILL GRADUALLY
DECREASE LATE THIS MORNING.

* IMPACTS...SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED DUE TO
WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS. IF TRAVELING...TAKE A WINTER
SURVIVAL KIT INCLUDING WARM CLOTHES AND BLANKETS...EXTRA FOOD
AND WATER... FLASHLIGHT AND BATTERIES. BLOWING AND DRIFTING
SNOW WILL CAUSE AREAS OF NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY.
