Deep and abundant tropical moisture will reside over South Texas
through the middle of the work week, as a mid level and surface
trough move into South Texas. Periods of showers and thunderstorms
are expected starting today, and continuing through at least
Wednesday. The best chances for heavy rainfall will be over the
Northeastern Coastal Bend Area and areas over the immediate
coast, with lower rainfall amounts farther south and west.

Through Thursday, rainfall amounts are expected to range from
about 7 to 10 inches near the immediate coast, 5 to 7 inches over
the inland areas near and east of Highway 77, and 2 to 5 inches
farther west. As with any heavy rainfall event, locally higher
amounts can be expected.

Since South Texas has been so dry over the past several weeks, the
soils are dry and many rivers and creeks have below normal flows.
Thus, a Flash Flood Watch will not be issued at this time.
However, once some areas receive some heavy rainfall and soils
become more saturated, A Flash Flood Watch may be required for
portions of South Texas before the heavy rainfall threat gradually
ends over the area toward the end of the week.

Residents should remain informed on the latest forecasts from
your National Weather Service Office in Corpus Christi concerning
this impending heavy rainfall event. Make sure to avoid driving
over water-covered roadways and be alert if you live in a flood-
prone area and heavy rainfall occurs. Remember, if water covers
the road, then TURN AROUND, DO NOT DROWN!
