Flood Watch
Including the cities of Oswego, Watertown, and Lowville
840 PM EST Fri Feb 24 2017

The Flood Watch continues for

* A portion of central New York...including the following
counties...Jefferson...Lewis and Oswego.

* Through Sunday evening.

* A deep low pressure system moving through the Great Lakes will
produce several periods of rain, with total rainfall from
Friday through Saturday of 1 to 1.5 inches. Much warmer
temperatures will also result in very rapid snowmelt across
the Tug Hill Plateau and western Adirondacks. Excessive runoff
from snowmelt and rain will result in significant rises on
area creeks and rivers.

* Flood potential will initially impact smaller streams which
drain the Tug Hill Plateau and western foothills of the
Adirondacks, with flooding possible in low lying areas and near
streams Friday night through Saturday. The larger rivers will
then see significant rises later Saturday and Sunday with
flooding expected along the entire reach of the Black River and
tributaries in Lewis and Jefferson Counties. Please see specific
river warnings for the Black River and Moose River. Other rivers
may reach flood stage later this weekend, including the Beaver
and possibly the Salmon River and other smaller rivers in
northern Oswego County.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop. Stay tuned to weather radio or other radio and tv
stations for further details or updates.
