A strong storm system will bring periods of rain and gusty winds
to lower elevations of western Nevada and far northeastern
California, starting on Wednesday and continuing until a cold
front moves through Thursday evening.

* RAIN: Areas of rain develop Wednesday evening, with rainfall
becoming more widespread and heavier Thursday. Moderate to heavy
rain is possible at times, with amounts exceeding 1 inch
possible in some foothill locations around Reno, Carson City and
Minden. Lighter amounts are likely in the lower valleys. This
rain could produce ponding in low lying areas and street
intersections, especially in locations where snow cover remains
from last week's storm.

* WINDS: Gusty winds could bring periodic travel impacts to
aviation and for high-profile vehicles, along with choppy
conditions on area lakes. Wind gusts of 40-45 mph are most
likely during the afternoon and evening both Wednesday and
Thursday, with gusts above 50 mph possible in wind prone areas
of western Nevada and the Surprise Valley.

Now is the time to complete preparations for this wind and rain,
which includes clearing snow from storm drains, and securing loose
outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash cans and canopies.
