SERVICE SIERRA AVALANCHE CENTER.

THE FOREST SERVICE SIERRA AVALANCHE CENTER HAS ISSUED A
BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING.

* TIMING...IN EFFECT THROUGH AT LEAST MONDAY MORNING.

* AFFECTED AREA...FOR THE SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAINS OF CALIFORNIA
AND NEVADA, FROM YUBA PASS TO EBBETTS PASS, INCLUDING THE LAKE
TAHOE BASIN.

* AVALANCHE DANGER...HIGH.

* REASON/IMPACTS...HIGH AVALANCHE DANGER EXISTS AT ALL ELEVATIONS.
DUE TO HEAVY SNOW, INTENSE SNOWFALL RATES, AND GALE FORCE WINDS,
HUMAN TRIGGERED WIND SLAB AVALANCHES AND STORM SLAB AVALANCHES
WILL BE VERY LIKELY. SOME AVALANCHES COULD BE LARGE, DEEP, AND
DESTRUCTIVE. TRAVEL IN OR NEAR AVALANCHE TERRAIN OR IN THE
RUNOUT ZONES OF AVALANCHE PATHS IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AVALANCHES MAY RUN LONG DISTANCES, INTO FLAT AREAS, AND CAN RUN
INTO MATURE FORESTS.

TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

FEET WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE NEAR MOUNT ROSE.

* WINDS: SIERRA RIDGE GUSTS UP TO 140 MPH. GUSTS 30 TO 45 MPH
POSSIBLE IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS. WINDS MAY DAMAGE TREES AND
POWER LINES.

* IMPACTS: DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FOR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES AND
TRAVEL WITH PERIODS OF WHITEOUT CONDITIONS THROUGH MONDAY
MORNING. AVALANCHE DANGER WILL INCREASE. CONSIDER NOT TRAVELING
TODAY OR TONIGHT IN THE SIERRA. STAY HOME...STAY SAFE.

HEAVY OVERNIGHT.

* ADDITIONAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 5 TO 8 INCHES FOR VALLEY
LOCATIONS...WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS UP TO 12 INCHES WEST OF HIGHWAY
395 INCLUDING THE SIERRA FOOTHILLS ABOVE 5000 FEET.

* WINDS: GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH MAY LEAD TO AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW.

* IMPACTS: DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS DUE TO LOW VISIBILITY AND
SNOW COVERED ROADS...MAINLY AFTER 4 PM.
