...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of California and Nevada, including
the following areas, in California, Greater Lake Tahoe Area,
Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties, and Surprise
Valley California. In Nevada, Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Greater
Reno-Carson City-Minden Area, and Northern Washoe County.
* Through this evening
* Additional showers and thunderstorms are expected this morning
and afternoon with locally heavy rainfall possible on already
saturated soils. The heaviest rainfall looks likely in the Reno-
Tahoe region this morning, transitioning into northeast
California and northwest Nevada this afternoon.
* Short bursts of high intensity rainfall could lead to additional
debris and mudflows in areas of steep terrain, as has occurred
the past couple of days. Areas near burn scars are also
especially at risk. Minor street flooding remains possible in
urban areas, especially if drainage is poor. Allow extra travel
time and keep a greater distance between vehicles for the

...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS NEAR SMITH VALLEY...
At 803 AM PDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms over
Smith Valley, or 12 miles northeast of Topaz Lake, moving north at
Half inch hail and winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with
this storm. Localized heavy rainfall is likely with these storms.
Locations impacted include...
Wellington, Nv 208 At Douglas-Lyon Co Line, Mount Como, Smith
Valley, Artesia Lake, Junction Nv 338 And Nv 829 (wellington Cutoff)
and Mount Siegel.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
lead to localized flooding. Expect ponding of water on roadways. In
areas of steep terrain, minor rock slides are possible. Do not drive
your vehicle through flooded roadways. Drivers should slow down and
turn on their headlights if encountering heavy rains.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM PDT
SATURDAY ABOVE 8000 FEET...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations above 8000 feet
of 1 to 3 inches, with localized amounts up to 6 inches, are
* WHERE...Mt Rose, Carson, Ebbetts, Sonora and Tioga passes and
high elevation hiking trails around the Lake Tahoe area, Alpine
County and Mono County.
* WHEN...Until 5 AM PDT Saturday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on hazardous driving conditions over
the high Sierra passes. Be prepared for reduced visibility,
chain controls at times. Plan on alternate route if you have
travel plans over Ebbetts, Sonora and Tioga passes.
Even light snowfall causes major travel delays, especially during
holiday weekends. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your
destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since it takes
