A late winter storm system will swing across northern and central
New Mexico Sunday and Sunday evening, bringing a variety of weather
to the region.

The northwest, west central and north central will see a mix of
rain and snow, along with a few thunderstorms. Accumulating snow
looks to favor the higher terrain of the Chuska, San Juan, Sangre
de Cristo and Jemez mountains Sunday. Since the storm will be
quick hitting, some of the higher snowfall amounts may range from
4 to 8 inches.

Very strong to potentially damaging southwest to west winds are
expected to develop for much of the region along and south of
Interstate 40 by midday Sunday and persist into the evening.
Gusts to around 55 to 65 mph are possible. Patchy to areas of
blowing dust could limit visibilities in the Rio Grande Valley and
portions of the East Central and Southeast Plains. By Sunday
evening winds will shift to the northwest ushering colder air,
especially over northeast New Mexico, where winds will remain
strong overnight.

Critical fire weather conditions are likely over the Northeast and
East Central Plains Sunday afternoon, where the combination of
near to above average temperatures and low humidities along with
strong winds will occur.

Strong winds, mountain snow and blowing dust may inhibit travel
over northern and central New Mexico Sunday and Sunday night.
