...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

The Flood Watch continues for

* A portion of central North Carolina, including the following
areas, Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham,
Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Guilford, Halifax,
Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Nash, Orange,
Person, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Vance,
Wake, Warren, Wayne, and Wilson.

* Through late Wednesday night

* Although a rather brief lull in the widespread showers and
thunderstorms may occur overnight, additional showers and
thunderstorms will return Wednesday afternoon and night across
the region. This additional activity will fall on ground that is
already saturated from recent rains. An additional 1 to 2 inches
of rain, with locally 2.5 inches in 3 hours or less may occur
Wednesday afternoon and night as a warm front lifts over the
region, followed by a cold front that is expected to push from
west to east through central NC on Wednesday night.

* If training of thunderstorms or excessive rainfall rates occur
on the saturated ground, flash flooding may occur rapidly.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. Monitor later forecasts and be alert for
possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding
should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

If flood warnings are issued, remember that it only takes 6 to 12
inches of rapidly flowing water to float a vehicle. Remember,
never drive through areas where water covers the road. The water
may be much deeper than it appears, and the road beneath could be
washed away or weakened.
