...A FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 715 AM EDT FOR ALAMANCE...
FORSYTH...DAVIDSON...ORANGE...HARNETT...RANDOLPH...GUILFORD...LEE AND
CHATHAM COUNTIES...

At 344 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated the bulk of the moderate
rainfall was east of the warned area. However, another batch of
moderate rain across the Raleigh vicinity will move westward along
the highway 64 and I-40 corridor through 630 AM. This additional
rainfall may aggravate any minor flooding now occurring. An
additional half to one inch of rain is possible through 630 AM EDT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING...

The Flood Watch continues for

* All of central North Carolina.

* Until 800 AM EDT this morning.

* Heavy rain will persist through sunrise, primarily along and
north of a band extending northwest from Goldsboro to the
Triangle.

* Flooding of creeks, streams, and drainage ditches can be
expected, particularly in the Triangle. At 230 am EDT, Crabtree
creek in Raleigh had already exceeded major flood stage at Old
Wake Forest Road and was approaching major flood stage at
Glenwood Avenue and Anderson Drive.

* Saturated soil from heavy rainfall and occasional northeast wind
gusts up to 25 mph may result in a few downed trees and power
outages. Downed trees have been reported in numerous locations
over the past 24 hours.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Monitor NOAA weather radio or your local media outlet for the
latest forecasts and warnings. Residents in flood prone areas
should prepare for the possibility of flooding, particularly those
who live along and near Crabtree creek on Glenwood Avenue,
Anderson Drive, and Old Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.

...Downed trees and powerlines possible tonight...

Persistent rain has saturated the ground, making it quite soggy.
Meanwhile, brisk northeast winds are probable tonight as an area
of low pressure moves northward over eastern North Carolina. Wind
gusts 20 to 25 mph are possible. These winds can easily topple
trees with shallow or weakened roots due to the soggy soil. Some
of these trees may fall on powerlines, resulting in sporadic
power outages.

The winds and the rain are expected to subside close to daybreak
Tuesday.
