* Until 145 AM CDT

* At 950 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of
rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin
shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Kansas City, Independence, Liberty, Gladstone, Parkville, North
Kansas City, Sugar Creek, Riverside, Weatherby Lake, Claycomo,
Pleasant Valley, Lake Waukomis, Glenaire, Avondale, Platte Woods,
Oakview, Northmoor, Houston Lake, Kansas City Downtown and Oakwood
Park.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 35 in Missouri between mile markers 4 and 14.
Interstate 29 between mile markers 0 and 8.
Interstate 635 between mile markers 7 and 12.
Interstate 435 between mile markers 21 and 25, and between mile
markers 50 and 59.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Northeastern Jackson County in west central Missouri...

* Until 200 AM CDT

* At 1059 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have
already fallen. Another 1 to 2 inches of rain is likely before
these storms move away. Flash flooding is expected to begin
shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Kansas City, Independence, Liberty, Sugar Creek, Buckner, Courtney,
Orrick, Sibley, Missouri City, Levasy, River Bend and Napoleon.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 35 in Missouri between mile markers 15 and 18.
Interstate 435 between mile markers 47 and 49.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM CDT THURSDAY...

The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has
expanded the

* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of Kansas and Missouri,
including the following areas, in Kansas, Atchison KS,
Doniphan, Johnson KS, Leavenworth, Miami, and Wyandotte. In
Missouri, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Cass, Chariton, Clay,
Clinton, Jackson, Johnson MO, Lafayette, Platte, Randolph,
Ray, and Saline.

* Until 7 AM CDT Thursday

* Thunderstorms with very heavy rain are possible this evening and
overnight with rainfall rates that may exceed 2 inches per hour
in the heaviest storms. Total rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches
are possible, with locally higher amounts.

* Excessive rainfall may result in flooding of low-lying or poor
drainage areas...creeks and streams...as well as urban areas.
In addition to the flash flood hazard...rising river levels
are also possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
