At 1247 AM CDT, local emergency management and law enforcement
officials continued to report flooding across the warned area. This
flooding is due to excessive rainfall of 4 to 7 inches that fell
across the area Wednesday and Thursday. Numerous rivers, streams
and creeks will remain at elevated or flooding levels through the
day and into the upcoming weekend.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Sioux Falls, Yankton, Worthington, Spencer In Clay County,
Vermillion, Sioux Center, Orange City, Sheldon, Spirit Lake, Luverne,
Windom, Pipestone, Jackson In Jackson County, Canton, Sibley, Rock
Rapids, Hawarden, Slayton, Beresford and Parker.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
