AROOSTOOK ME-
611 AM EDT WED APR 16 2014

...THE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 300 PM EDT WEDNESDAY FOR
URBAN AREAS AND SMALL STREAMS IN AROOSTOOK COUNTY...

**A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS BEEN
REPORTED. ALL INTERESTED PARTIES SHOULD TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS
IMMEDIATELY.**

FLOODING CONTINUES IN PORTIONS OF THE COUNTY THIS MORNING. LATEST
REPORTS ARE THAT THE EGYPT ROAD FROM PRESQUE ISLE INTO EASTON WAS
CLOSED DUE TO HIGH WATER. ROUTE 164 NEAR THE WASHBURN AND PRESQUE
ISLE LINE WAS FLOODED. THESE REPORTS ARE IN ADDITION TO THE NUMEROUS
REPORTS OF IMPACTED ROADS LAST EVENING.

ICE MOVEMENT AND JAMS CONTINUE ON THE AROOSTOOK RIVER. ICE HAD MOVED
OUT OF WASHBURN WITH WATER LEVELS RECEDING, BUT ICE HAS NOW JAMMED
UP NEAR THE MASARDIS GAGE WITH WATER BACKING UP BEHIND THE JAM AND
RISING. THE LATEST STAGE AT MASARDIS WAS 17.50 FEET AND FLOOD STAGE
IS 17 FEET.

ANOTHER ICE JAM RESIDES AT ROUTE 1A BRIDGE IN FORT FAIRFIELD. WATER
WAS BACKING UP BEHIND THIS JAM AS WELL AND RISING. THE COLDER
TEMPERATURES WILL SLOW THINGS UP TODAY INTO TONIGHT BUT THE ICE JAMS
WILL MOST LIKELY SETTLE IN PLACE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
