* Flash Flood Warning for...
Harlan County in southeastern Kentucky...
Southeastern Bell County in southeastern Kentucky...

* Until midnight EDT

* At 905 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have
already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Harlan, Loyall, Evarts, Wallins Creek, Bobs Creek, Mary Alice,
Dizney, Chevrolet, Varilla, Louellen, Coldiron, Ponza, Black Snake,
Elcomb, Blanche, Cubage, White Star, Shields, Black Mountain and
Blackmont.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE SUNDAY
NIGHT...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of east central Kentucky, northeast Kentucky, south
central Kentucky, and southeast Kentucky, including the
following areas, in east central Kentucky, Bath, Elliott,
Estill, Menifee, Montgomery, Powell, and Rowan. In northeast
Kentucky, Johnson and Martin. In south central Kentucky,
Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne, and Whitley. In
southeast Kentucky, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan,
Jackson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan,
Owsley, Perry, Pike, and Wolfe.

* Through late Sunday night

* Locally heavy rainfall will be possible as storms track along a
stalled out frontal boundary near eastern Kentucky this
afternoon into this evening. Additional rounds of heavy rainfall
are possible through late Sunday night.

* Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
Additionally, fast rises on area creeks, streams, and some
rivers are possible. Those camping near the water this weekend
need to be prepared to seek higher ground if a flash flood
warning is issued.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

NORTHERN WHITLEY AND SOUTHERN CLAY COUNTIES...

At 927 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from Moore Hill to Stony Fork Junction.
Movement was northeast at 30 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail are possible with these
storms.

Locations impacted include...
Barbourville, Pineville, Loyall, Wallins Creek, Sandy Fork, Bledsoe,
Brightshade, Varilla, Swan Lake, Coldiron, Goose Rock, Black Snake,
Erose, Bush, Cranes Nest, Blanche, Napier, Herron, Rella and Hooker.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
