The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of central Illinois, east central Illinois, and
southeast Illinois, including the following areas, in central
Illinois, Christian, De Witt, Logan, Macon, McLean, Menard,
Piatt, and Shelby Counties. In east central Illinois, Champaign,
Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie, and
Vermilion Counties. In southeast Illinois, Clay, Crawford,
Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, and Richland Counties.

* Through Monday morning.

* Periods of heavy rainfall are expected through Sunday night. By
Monday morning, a large area of 2 to 3 inches of additional rain
is expected. The threat of heavy rain will end with the passage
of a cold front late Sunday.

* In addition to potential flooding of streets and roads in
flood prone areas, area rivers and streams are also likely to
experience flooding. This would persist for several days after
the rain ends.


A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION,
especially if driving. Never drive across a flooded roadway. You
should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

The Flood Warning continues for
The Embarras River at Lawrenceville.
* From this evening until Wednesday May 10.
* At 845 PM Saturday the stage was 29.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 30 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage overnight and continue to rise
to near 39.5 feet by Wednesday evening. The river will fall below
flood stage by Wednesday, May 10.
* Impact...At 33 feet, Lumber Mill Road is inundated. At 36 feet,
Billet-Vincennes River Road is inundated. At 37 feet, the road
across Poteet Bridge floods, and some houses are isolated.
At 40.0 feet, 10th Street and parts of 3rd Street in
Lawrenceville are inundated.

The Flood Warning continues for
The Wabash River at Vincennes.
* from Sunday afternoon until further notice.
* At 10:45 PM Saturday the stage was 11.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by tomorrow early afternoon and
continue to rise to near 24.6 feet by Saturday evening.
* At 24.5 feet...On the north side of Vincennes near Old Terre Haute
Road, sawmill extensively floods including the concrete structures.
Flood waters surround about 5 to 10 houses just west of road near
the Executive Inn. Kelso Creek has extensive backwater. Wabash
River is within a few inches of closing Oliphant Drive at Kelso
Creek. A heavy local rain would cause severe flooding to shopping
center near Kelso Creek. Fort Knox Road floods at Snapp Creek.
Park located on Fort Knox Road also floods.

The Wabash River at Riverton.
* from this evening until further notice.
* At 10:00 PM Saturday the stage was 15.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 24.4 feet by
Friday evening then begin falling.
* At 24.0 feet...Extensive flooding is in progress. Most levees are
at critical levels. Water level near the top of a few levees.
High water begins to affect residences in eastern Palestine,
Illinois and those along East River Road just southeast of
Palestine. Some evacuations are necessary. Rodeo area in Leaverton
Park begins to flood. Water near or over East River Road south of

The Wabash River at Hutsonville Legacy Power Plant Site.
* until further notice.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is forecast to have a maximum value of 24.9
feet Friday morning.
* At 25.0 feet...Extensive flooding is in progress in York and
Hutsonville, Illinois. Flood waters surround homes and are in a
local park. Local river road south of Hutsonville to Palestine
almost floods.
