MOUNTAINS...GORE RANGE...FRONT RANGE...TENMILE RANGE...SAWATCH RANGE
AND NORTH SAN JUAN

THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE
WATCH FOR THE NORTH AND CENTRAL MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO. A STRONG
WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT THE AREA FROM SUNDAY INTO MONDAY. AVALANCHE
DANGER WILL INCREASE RAPIDLY AS SNOW ACCUMULATES AND DRIFTS.
BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE CONDITIONS COULD BECOME VERY DANGEROUS BY
SUNDAY AFTERNOON. TRAVEL IN OR BELOW AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT
RECOMMENDED.

MIDNIGHT MST MONDAY NIGHT...

* TIMING...LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE THIS MORNING. SNOW WILL
QUICKLY INCREASE IN INTENSITY THIS AFTERNOON WITH HEAVY SNOW AND
NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OVERNIGHT. LIGHTER SNOW WILL CONTINUE
MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT...BUT THERE WILL STILL BE EXTENSIVE
BLOWING SNOW AND POOR TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...14 TO 24 INCHES.

* WIND/VISIBILITY...WINDS OF 20 TO 40 MPH WILL BE COMMON...WITH
GUSTS AS HIGH AS 75 MPH OVER HIGHER EXPOSED AREAS. WIDESPREAD
BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON...AND
BLIZZARD CONDITIONS MAY BECOME WIDESPREAD THIS EVENING.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE QUICKLY THIS
AFTERNOON. ROADS WILL BECOME SNOW PACKED WITH DRIFTING SNOW AND
NEAR ZERO VISIBILITIES IN WINDIER AREAS. ROAD CLOSURES ARE
POSSIBLE...AND CHAINS WILL LIKELY BE REQUIRED FOR COMMERCIAL
VEHICLES OVER THE PASSES. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT THREAT OF
TRAVELERS BEING STRANDED FOR AN EXTENDED TIME WITH THIS STORM.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS
WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. CONSIDER AVOIDING TRAVEL
IN THE WARNING AREA AS CONDITIONS WILL BECOME DANGEROUS. IF YOU
MUST TRAVEL...BE PREPARED FOR SLOW AND DIFFICULT DRIVING AND BE
PREPARED FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF ROAD CLOSURES OR BECOMING

* TIMING...SNOW WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD AND HEAVIER BY EARLY
AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL THEN BE HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGH SUNDAY
NIGHT BEFORE GRADUALLY DECREASING MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...10 TO 18 INCHES.

* WIND/VISIBILITY...WEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH WITH
GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH IN OPEN AREAS BY THIS EVENING. NEAR BLIZZARD
CONDITIONS WILL BE POSSIBLE.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE QUICKLY THIS
AFTERNOON. ROADS WILL BE ICY AND SNOW PACKED ROADS WITH DRIFTING
SNOW AND POOR VISIBILITY. TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED DURING THE
HEIGHT OF THIS STORM.
