SANGRE DE CRISTO RANGE

THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE
WATCH FOR THE SOUTHERN MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO. A STRONG WINTER STORM
WILL IMPACT THE AREA THROUGH MONDAY. AVALANCHE DANGER WILL INCREASE
RAPIDLY AS SNOW ACCUMULATES AND DRIFTS. BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE
CONDITIONS COULD BECOME VERY DANGEROUS BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. TRAVEL
IN OR BELOW AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

MST MONDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PUEBLO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM
THIS EVENING TO 5 PM MST MONDAY.

* LOCATION...THE SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS ABOVE 11000 FEET.

* CAUSE AND TIMING...A MOIST...PACIFIC JET STREAM WILL BRING
PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS TO THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE
THROUGH MONDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION...1 TO 2 FEET.

* WIND...WEST TO SOUTHWEST 15 TO 35 GUSTING OVER 50 MPH.

* IMPACT...TRAVEL WILL BE HAZARDOUS DUE TO HEAVY...BLOWING AND
DRIFTING SNOW...NEAR ZERO VISIBILITIES AND ICY...SNOW COVERED
ROADS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

WINTER STORMS MAY HAVE STRONG WINDS AND REDUCED VISIBILITY DUE TO
HEAVY SNOWFALL AND BLOWING SNOW. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF OVER
8 INCHES IN THE MOUNTAINS MAY OCCUR. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO
TRAVEL IN THE WATCH AREA DURING THE TIME OF THE WATCH...LISTEN TO
THE LATEST WEATHER FORECAST AND CONSIDER TRAVELING AT ANOTHER
TIME OR BY ANOTHER ROUTE. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL IN OR THROUGH THE
