...Snowmelt Flooding Concerns Increase Over the Eastern Sierra
and Western Nevada...

With temperatures rising well above normal through Wednesday,
snowmelt will accelerate across the eastern Sierra. The increase
in snowmelt will cause daily rises in many small streams from Mono
County north through the northern Sierra. Snowmelt flow typically
peaks in smaller streams late in the evening or overnight.
Farther downstream flows will continue to increase through next
week as the smaller streams add water to the main rivers.

Small streams, and Walker, Carson, and Truckee River flooding

* On the WEST WALKER RIVER, minor flooding is expected from the
Walker River Canyon into Antelope Valley and high flows through
Smith Valley and downstream through Wilson Canyon. There is
minor flooding occurring just below Wilson Canyon.

* On the EAST WALKER RIVER, minor flooding is ongoing and
expected to continue from just above Strosnider Ditch to the
confluence with the West Walker.

to crest just below moderate flood stage. Minor flood stage
will be reached Wednesday morning and flow will peak out late

* No flooding is expected below Weber Reservoir at this time.

* SMALL STREAMS draining the eastern Sierra could see flows in
excess of 2 to 3 times their current flows causing flooding
near the streams from southern Mono County north through the
Tahoe Basin and into parts of Sierra and Plumas Counties.

CARSON VALLEY...are likely to experience minor flooding of farm
and ranch lands.

* The TRUCKEE RIVER will likely see minor flooding below Lake
Tahoe to Truckee along Highway 89 and nearby areas. This is
likely to be confined to areas immediately adjacent to the river
with impacts confined to campgrounds and bike trails.
