EVENING...

* AFFECTED AREA...Northern Gila County and Oak Creek and
Sycamore Canyons.

* TEMPERATURE...Upper 90s near 6000 feet, 105 to 115 degrees in
the lowest valleys.

* IMPACTS...A prolonged period of hot temperatures is ongoing
and significantly increasing the potential for heat related
illness. Those without access to adequate air conditioning and
hydration are most at risk.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The hot temperatures
will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are
likely. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room
if possible...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and
neighbors.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

* AFFECTED AREA...South-central and southwest Arizona including
Phoenix and the surrounding desert communities as well as the
community of Yuma.

* TEMPERATURE...Highs 107 to 117 degrees.

* IMPACTS...A major increase in the potential for heat related
illness and even death. Those working or exercising outdoors
during the daytime, the elderly, and those without access to
adequate air conditioning will be most at risk.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Never leave kids or pets unattended in cars. Drink more water
than usual and avoid alcohol, sugar, and caffeine. When outdoors,
wear light colored clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to keep your
head and body cooler. Take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air
conditioned environments. Public places with air conditioning
include libraries, community centers, government buildings,
malls, and special refuge stations.

Recognize the signs and symptoms of heat illness. Early symptoms
include things such as headache, thirst, and muscle cramps.
Serious symptoms include weakness, skin that is cool to the
touch, fast but weak pulse, nausea, and fainting. Severe symptoms
include hot and red dry skin, fast and strong Pulse, sweating
that has stopped, and unconsciousness. Untreated heat illness can
lead to fatal heat stroke.

the potential for heat related illness. Those working or
exercising outdoors during the daytime, the elderly, and those
without access to adequate air conditioning will be most at
risk.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and
neighbors.

possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
