Flash Flood Watch
Including the cities of Hamilton, Sulligent, Vernon, Fayette,
Double Springs, Jasper, Oneonta, Gadsden, and Centre

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Alabama, northeast
Alabama, northwest Alabama, and west central Alabama,
including the following areas, in central Alabama, Blount and
Walker. In northeast Alabama, Cherokee and Etowah. In
northwest Alabama, Marion and Winston. In west central
Alabama, Fayette and Lamar.

* Through Thursday morning.

* Heavy rainfall will be possible along and ahead of slow moving
cold front. This rain will be very efficient and could produce
1 to 2 inches in a very short time, with locally higher totals.
Stay tuned for updates to locations as well as possible warnings
through the period.


A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Northwestern Walker County in central Alabama...
Southeastern Marion County in northwestern Alabama...
Winston County in northwestern Alabama...
Northwestern Fayette County in west central Alabama...
Central Lamar County in west central Alabama...

* Until 1015 AM CDT.

* At 711 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms moving across the advisory counties. This will cause
urban and small stream flooding, which will continue for at least
the next three hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Hamilton, Winfield, Haleyville, Carbon Hill, Vernon, Sulligent,
Lynn, Guin, Double Springs, Brilliant, Glen Allen, Kansas, Nauvoo,
Beaverton, Gu-Win, Eldridge, Houston Recreational Area, Ashbank,
Brushy Lake and Ashridge.


Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
