...Locally heavy showers expected across portions of Southcentral
Alaska this afternoon and evening...

Bands of showers containing heavy rain and small hail will develop
mid-day and become more widespread during the afternoon hours.
The most likely areas to see these heavy showers includes the
interior Kenai Peninsula northward to Anchorage and Palmer as
well across most of the Susitna Valley and Copper River Basin.
There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms across these same
areas.

Meanwhile, colder air aloft will move in with the showers causing
snow levels to fall to 2000 feet or lower this afternoon. For
Anchorage, the upper hillside from about Hillside road on up may
see some wet snow in heavier showers. However, do not expect any
snow accumulation.

Showers will taper off from south to north during the evening
hours. Showers will linger across the northern Susitna Valley
and northern Copper River Basin, where there is potential for
some light snow accumulation as temperatures continue to drop
overnight.

Anyone planning to recreate in the mountains across Southcentral
Alaska today should be prepared to encounter snow, low
visibilities and gusty southerly winds.
